The Ocean Gardeners was originally founded on 9th August 2024 as the European Seagrass Restoration Alliance.

From 8-10 April 2025, in collaboration with le Parc naturel marin du Bassin d’Arcachon, we organised and hosted the 2nd European Seagrass Restoration Workshop in Arcachon.

In January 2026 we formally changed the name of the Association to The Ocean Gardeners (Annonce JOAFE parue le 13 janvier 2026), in order to focus efforts on building public involvement and civic engagement in marine restoration programmes.
